"Indigenous peoples around the country have a new opportunity to enter the medical field for free. It’s a way to funnel tribal members into careers while filling healthcare gaps.

Health Tech Academy, a company that offers online medical training and fills staffing shortages, is partnering with the Jackson, Wyoming-based nonprofit Native American Jump Start, which helps 'jumpstart' tribal members’ college and employment careers."

US COVID rates are high nationally right now. Yet...

I just returned from a trip to Florida (not by choice, for a family reunion to spread my mom's ashes). My trip involved moving through 4 airports each direction: Bellingham Washington, Seattle Washington, Austin Texas, and Sarasota Florida.

All of the airports and planes were packed to the gills. The congestion rivaled the busiest days of Thanksgiving or Christmas travel.

I counted mask wearers both on the way there and back. I don't think I saw more than 10-20 people (out of hundreds of thousands) wearing masks.

I didn't see anyone wearing masks at restaurants or in the shops.

My niece caught COVID and had to cancel her trip just before leaving. My brother-in-law didn't wear a mask on his return and now has COVID.

"With the national shortage of primary care physicians reaching 17,637 in 2023 and projected to worsen, more Americans are paying for the privilege of seeing a doctor — on top of insurance premiums that cover most services a doctor might provide or order. Many people seeking a new doctor are calling a long list of primary care practices only to be told they’re not taking new patients."

'The architect of the government's delayed reforms to social care has told Sky News politicians need to "grow up" and tackle the crisis in the sector.'

'Amid a bitter election row over public spending, Sir Andrew Dilnot said he believed the two main parties were reluctant to discuss care reform for fear of being accused of plotting future hikes.'

Labour & the Tories would both leave the NHS with lower spending increases than during Tory austerity, according to an analysis of their manifestos by the Nuffield Trust.
It said the planned funding increases “would make the next few years the tightest period of funding in NHS history”

With shadow Health Secretary Wes Streeting's predilection for private healthcare it doesn't matter who you vote for. The is going to hell in a handcart.

"Federal efforts to remove medical debt from credit reports began last fall after Harris announced that the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) would take the first steps to create rules that would take medical bills off credit reports, prohibit creditors from using medical bills to make underwriting decisions and ban collectors from using medical debt to pressure consumers to make payments."

Nearly half of England’s care workers get less than real living wage, study finds

https://www.theguardian.com/society/article/2024/jun/09/nearly-half-of-england-care-workers-get-less-than-real-living-wage-study

In Scotland and Wales, social care workers earn at least the real living wage. With job vacancy rates running at about 10% and turnover almost double the average of other sectors, campaigners want all English care staff to have the same guarantees.

It is as though they don't care in England! Guess which country is run by the Tories?

Hey ! If you're just going to sit back and let our governments destroy our system without demanding that they stop...

I broke my arm in March, while in the US. The bills are still coming in - every service in the ER seems to bill separately. I am now at $16,000 US (yes, thousand) for the bill. I did not have surgery and I didn't even have a cast put on. I was given a $25 sling. I was at the hospital for a total of 2.5 hours. The ambulance ride was $1,050.
