@StephanieJane You will not regret reading the first book. She is an author well worth following.

The Toby Daye series was my introduction to Seanan McGuire. I think she writes better elsewhere - the alchemy books or the Roadwitch trilogy are superb - but I do keep coming back to these. It is the slow development of the mythology that draws me in, as each book delves a little further into Fairy and as Toby discovers who she is and what she is.

In fact, so funny it's almost impossible to read more than a few pages at a time. Don't take it on public transport

I cannot actually finish this, as every time I read a few pages, I laugh so much it hurts. Burroughs meets Monty Python.

Some books you read for the story, some books you read for the characters, some books you read for the language. Some books you don't know where you're going and it doesn't matter. On my bookshelf, this sits next to Tristram Shandy.

Lots of action, lots of jokes. I did find the segues from section to section somewhat wearing after a while. Will read the third volume.

I found this series after reading her online comic (Digger). I enjoyed it and went on to read several of her books.

I first picked this up as a series of ecomics in a Humble Bundle. I liked it enough to lay out for the physical book, and now have the first three on my shelves. A good story and art-work that I like - who could ask for more?

This is the book in which Pratchett sets out his table for all to see. It's about stories, and how we read them and how they impact on us. Granny Weatherwax is the author's anti-Quixote

This is one of Pratchett's better ones. It's not set within one of the series, but takes up folklore themes that might find their way into the repertoires of Fairport Convention or Pentangle. And which are also extremely on point. Send a copy to JK Rowling.
