He makes a good point, but he writes it in a quite intelligent manner that is too learned for me and not accessible enough. For instance he throws around with dozens of -isms and expects you to know what they are, or dozens of philosophers and expects you to know their viewpoint.
The majority of the book however, part 2 where he gives a shitload of examples of the progress that humankind has made the past two centuries, does not have this flaw however. It's insightful and easy to read. That alone makes this book worth reading.
