Spans the years between the formation of Rome up until c.200AD. The author really expects the reader to know the historical background to this book, context being left largely unsaid amidst commentary and debate about the events, their authenticity as handed down through the ages and then the author's opinions. If the reader is already very familiar with the subject matter, this could be an interesting and enlightening read. I found it largely a frustrating read despite having a basic knowledge of the period.
