Have to say, the Koli books so far have been a real surprise. I really rate Carey's stuff, going right back to discovering Hellblazer but my first thought with the first Koli was that it was just a bit too weird. The story has really grown on me right the way through and now waiting for book 3 to be delivered!

I’m continually impressed by Adrian Tchaikovsky’s storytelling and the number of worlds and cultures he’s imagined.
This one looks like straightforward fantasy at the start but becomes more of an exploration of the role of heroes when war is done. There’s a sly thread of humour running through it all that adds to the characters and personalities all the way through.
Off to the library to look for book 2 :)
