Three-Body Problem Series

Meh. I very much wanted to enjoy this, but was disappointed. The concept is interesting, and the science is fun (and good), but there is something clunky about the style. Maybe that's the translation, or me not being familiar with the writing culture this is from, or maybe it's this book itself - I don't know.
The reason I rounded down to 3 rather than up to 4 is that it just stopped, with no resolution, part way through the story. Yeah, I get that it's the first of three volumes, but I expected a bit of natural closure at the end of this volume.
I doubt I will be continuing with the series.

Good follow-up of Three Body Problem. I like the world building ideas presented in the book. It is very clear it's a second part of a trilogy, and cannot be read properly before reading part one. It could have been slightly shorter, I think with 15% less text the same book could have been written.

It has some great ideas, but a lot of it is set up for the rest of the trilogy and I hear the rest of the trilogy is super depressing so I don't think I'll be reading further. I made that mistake with the Rama trilogy, not again.

This is a good SF book, however having read [b:The Goblin Emperor|17910048|The Goblin Emperor|Katherine Addison|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1373039517s/17910048.jpg|24241248], which was inched for the Hugo this year by The Three-Body Problem, I can't agree. While it has some excellent SF elements, and is set in an amazing backdrop of China, it breaks the suspension of disbelief for me a few more times than I can digest in a book.

I liked reading it, and I probably would do a re-read before the sequels and understand it better, but this isn't as good as The Goblin Emperor, which I adored.
